Ok, so for the past decade plus, I have heard so many complaints about how the Hawaii Hip Hop scene is still small but got so much talent out there that they just need more opening venues and promoters to put these shows on for the masses. Other complaints consist of that these venues cost “too much” and that they can’t afford to be paying “x” amount of money every week or month.
Promoters like DJ Bone of the Got Rice? show on KTUH, has endlessly help the Hawaii Hip Hop scene by playing unheard Hawaii Hip Hop artists on college radio and also throwing venues (which 90% of them are FREE) to help put a face to them. DJ Bone has been effortless on supporting the scene, by means of using his own personal income to fund these events. I cannot thank DJ Bone enough on doing this for the Hawaii scene, especially being one of his partners that helped his earlier stages on pushing the scene out there.
Now there’s 808SPEAKERBOX, that has committed to helping fundraise money to help build more exposure for Hawaii Hip Hop artists, stemming from emcees, DJ’s, Producers, B-boys/B-Girls, and Graf heads/Painters. The fundraiser is a kickstarter to push the first ever 808SpeakerBox Hip Hop event, which will happen on January 7, 2012 at Next Door and ThirtyNineHotel. The money that is accumulated from now until December 10th, will be also be reinvested to DJ Bone, for all his hard work on putting this scene on the map.
If everyone in the Hawaii Hip Hop scene, including fans, promoters, artists, just chip in $10 into this fundraiser, 808SPEAKERBOX will get enough money to invest into more shows for the Hawaii Hip Hop heads and artists in the upcoming year. This will also help DJ Bone build more hip hop venues around the city to help cultivate the scene and also get “outta towners” to hear what Hawaii got (did I mention local shows for FREE?). There are several donation packages that include free VIP passes for the January 7th event, shirts, stickers, buttons, and many incentives for the cause. 808SpeakerBox’s full intent is to push the scene as a WHOLE, in order for Hawaii Hip Hop to be heard throughout the mainland and beyond. A simple donation will be a great gift for the Hawaii Hip Hop scene. Hell, it’s been striving this long, so compensating it back with just a few dollars wouldn’t hurt a bit. If you ask me, I already put in my support, now it’s your TURN! Big ups to 808Speakerbox and DJ Bone for taking the time on helping this scene flourish to another level!
